Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Merkur? It’s tucked right in Těšnov, which honestly feels like this perfect sweet spot between Prague’s main action and the quieter residential areas. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the central train station – and I’m talking about the gorgeous Art Nouveau Hlavní nádraží, not some sketchy transit hub. The building itself has this solid, understated elegance that screams “Czech business hotel done right” without trying too hard to impress tourists with fake historical charm.
The lobby actually feels like somewhere locals might grab a coffee meeting, which I always take as a good sign. There’s this warm, woody atmosphere with just enough modern touches that you don’t feel like you’re staying in someone’s grandmother’s parlor. What really won me over, though, was how the staff seemed to genuinely know Prague – not just the obvious tourist spots. When I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the concierge rattled off three different tram options and mentioned which streets to avoid during evening rush hour. That kind of local knowledge is gold when you’re trying to navigate a city properly. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – clean lines, comfortable beds, and bathrooms that actually have decent water pressure (honestly, this matters more than people admit). I stayed in one of their corner rooms and the windows opened wide enough to let in that crisp Prague air, though you’ll want to close them if you’re sensitive to street noise in the mornings.
Here’s the thing about Merkur’s location that took me a day to fully appreciate – you’re basically positioned between Old Town and the newer districts without being stuck in the thick of either tourist crowds or complete residential quiet. Walk ten minutes south and you’re at Wenceslas Square; head north and you’re in these lovely tree-lined streets where actual Praguers live and work. The hotel sits near enough to Florenc that you can catch buses to anywhere in the city, but the immediate neighborhood has this lived-in feel with small cafés and local shops. I grabbed pastries most mornings from a bakery two blocks over that clearly serves more office workers than hotel guests. Parking’s available if you’re driving, though honestly, in this part of Prague you’re better off leaving the car and using public transport. The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but everything works smoothly and the attention to detail shows. Small things like having actual hangers (not those useless attached ones), decent lighting for reading, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a vending machine. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel more like a temporary Prague resident than a tourist passing through.
Prague hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Old Town Square to elegant castle-view hotels and modern accommodations near Wenceslas Square.

Osom personal, good location, parking, delicious breakfast!
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel, and the main reason was the amazing staff! Irina and her colleague at reception were incredibly helpful and welcoming.
The breakfast was absolutely outstanding! I travel a lot and usually find the standard options—eggs, cold cuts, vegetables, fruits, bread, and desserts. But here, they go above and beyond! They offer unique, healthy choices like soy tofu with sesame, hummus, and many other nutritious options that you rarely find in hotels.
Yes, the hotel is a bit old and slightly worn out, but it has a certain charm. The professionalism and kindness of the staff make all the difference. Because of them, we are definitely coming back!
What could be improved: One downside is that the walls are quite thin, so you can hear people from nearby rooms. This might be an issue for light sleepers.Janar from Finland – 24 March 2025 (9/10)
Perfect location, very nice service, breakfast was very good and a large selection of different foods. The room was quiet and warm. Everything was very nice.

A decent hotel. I think the best choice for a stay in Prague for a middle-aged couple 😄
Multiple advantages, from the free parking space, the excellent location, close to all the points of interest in the city and last but not least, excellent service.
By far the best reception ever, friendly staff and clear instructions for first-time tourists in the city.
Clean, spacious, warm rooms and with a little surprise upon arrival (no spoilers, you'll have to see).
I recommend 100% and thank you once again for everything you offer.
Yes, we will be back.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience during my stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and kindness. The hospitality was exceptional, and the thoughtful gestures throughout my stay made me feel truly special.
A special thank you to Dear Anel, whose kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail went above and beyond my expectations. She made sure that everything was perfect and always greeted us with a warm smile. Her exceptional service truly elevated my experience.
The hotel itself was comfortable, well-maintained, and beautifully designed. The small complimentary treats and thoughtful touches added to the overall charm of the stay.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a welcoming and memorable experience. I will definitely be returning!Selcuk from Netherlands – 6 March 2025 (9/10)
