Hotel Melantrich Old Town Overview

You know what hit me first about Hotel Melantrich? The location is just ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re literally on Melantrichova Street, which honestly feels like you’re living inside a Prague postcard. I mean, you walk out the front door and you’re basically in the thick of Old Town Square madness, but somehow the hotel itself sits on this quieter stretch where you’re not getting trampled by tour groups at 7 AM.

The building has that whole historic Prague thing going on (it’s actually from the 14th century, which is wild), but inside it’s been updated enough that you’re not dealing with medieval plumbing or anything sketchy like that. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms. Nothing fancy, but honestly, when you’re paying Old Town prices, you’re mostly paying for the location anyway. The staff actually knows their stuff too, which surprised me. They pointed me toward this little café on Kozí Street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I needed directions to the Jewish Quarter, the guy at the front desk drew me this perfect little map showing the back routes to avoid the crowds.

Here’s the thing about staying right in Old Town – it gets absolutely bonkers during peak season, but if you time it right (like early morning or after dinner), you’ve got these incredible cobblestone streets almost to yourself. From Melantrich, you can literally walk to the Astronomical Clock in about three minutes, but more importantly, you’re close to all those little streets that branch off where the real Prague happens. Týn Church is right there, and there’s this amazing traditional Czech restaurant called U Fleků that’s maybe a ten-minute walk through the most gorgeous part of the city. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be some luxury experience, but it delivers exactly what you want from a Prague stay. You’ll hear some street noise (it’s the city center, what do you expect?), and the elevators are a bit slow, but honestly? When you’re stumbling back from a night out in Wenceslas Square or coming home after wandering around Lesser Town all day, you’ll be grateful you don’t have to trek back to some hotel in the suburbs. Plus, if you’re into that whole “wake up and immediately be in the most beautiful part of Prague” thing, this place nails it.
