Hotel Meda of Museum Kampa Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Meda? It’s actually tucked into this quiet residential pocket near Kampa Island that most tourists completely miss – I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the museum that gives the hotel its name, but it feels worlds away from the crowds shuffling around Old Town. The building itself is this converted townhouse situation, so don’t expect some gleaming lobby with marble floors. Instead, you get these cozy, slightly cramped spaces that honestly feel more like staying at someone’s well-appointed city apartment than a traditional hotel. The front desk staff actually knows your name after the first day (there can’t be more than 20 rooms here), and they’ll remember how you like your coffee if you stick around for a few mornings.

Here’s the thing about the location – it’s sort of perfectly positioned if you actually want to experience Prague like someone who lives here. Národní obrany isn’t some postcard-pretty street, but you’re close enough to walk along the Vltava in the early morning when the light hits those baroque facades just right, and there’s this little bakery about two blocks down that locals queue up at around 7 AM for these incredible koláče pastries. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re fine for a 3-star place, though the bathrooms are definitely on the smaller side and the walls aren’t exactly soundproof – I could hear my neighbor’s TV one night, but honestly, by 10 PM things quiet down since it’s mostly a residential area. What I really appreciated was the breakfast setup – nothing fancy, but they actually source their bread locally and the coffee is surprisingly good (way better than what you’ll get at those tourist traps near the castle).

The 7.6 rating makes total sense to me because this isn’t the kind of place that’ll blow you away with luxury, but it gets all the important stuff right. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually worked throughout the building, and when I needed restaurant recommendations, the evening desk clerk gave me three spots that were clearly his personal favorites, not just the places that probably give hotels kickbacks. If you’re the type who needs a concierge and room service, look elsewhere – but if you want a clean, comfortable base for exploring Prague without paying tourist-district prices, and you don’t mind feeling like you’re staying in an actual neighborhood instead of a hotel bubble, this place delivers. Just pack light because that elevator is… let’s call it “vintage European sizing.”

The concierge service in Prague can arrange exclusive tours of Prague Castle, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize personalized visits to Charles Bridge and the UNESCO World Heritage historic center.

Reviews of Hotel Meda of Museum Kampa

  • Clean, friendly and helpful staff very accommodating – Balbir from United Kingdom – 17 July 2025 (8/10)

Great location near plenary of cafes and transport links. Attractions are close by can walk and also taxi

What could be improved: Breakfast was included with out price although we only had it once so cannot give a rating for this.

  • Thank you for the good impression of Prague, starting with the hotel. – Шуринова from Italy – 29 June 2025 (9/10)

On the first day we arrived we were met by a very smiling girl, later we learned that her name was Nazim. She kindly asked us to wait while our room was being cleaned. At that time she gave us a map of Prague with all the sights. She told us where we could go first, since the hotel is located within walking distance of all the sights. Where we could eat and how to buy tickets for transport. Thank you Nazim! The second guy at the reception, Sergey, was no less kind. The breakfasts were delicious. I especially remember the very tasty pastries. The roll with cottage cheese is special!!! It was very tasty with coffee. Thanks to the girl who worked in the kitchen. We would also like to thank the cleaning girls for the cleanliness of the room. Thank you.

What could be improved: the room is a bit tired

  • Very good – Alena from Russia – 21 June 2025 (8/10)

I stayed at this hotel for a few days and overall had a good experience. The location is excellent — close to shops, restaurants, and public transport. The room was clean and comfortable, which I really appreciated. Breakfast is available, but it's quite basic and not very impressive — just the essentials. Still, considering the price, the hotel offers great value for money.

What could be improved: The only downside was the staff — they seemed rather indifferent and not particularly welcoming or helpful.

  • A simple and comfortable hotel – Kristina from Lithuania – 19 June 2025 (9/10)

It’s in a great location, near the tram stops and the subway, many great places to eat just around the corner. Nice breakfast. Amazing value for such a low price.

What could be improved: It was a little bit outdated, we liked the building, especially the elevator, but the shower was very old and got stuck so we couldn’t use it for one night. Gladly the staff was helpful and it was resolved.

  • Great stay – Weronika from Poland – 21 April 2025 (9/10)
