Hotel Leon D´Oro

Prague, Czech Republic
Havelská 29, Prague, 11000, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Leon D’Oro? It’s tucked right into Havelská Street, which honestly puts you in the absolute sweet spot of Prague’s Old Town – I mean, you’re literally steps from the Havelské Tržiště market where locals actually shop for produce and flowers. The building itself has that perfectly preserved medieval charm (the street dates back to the 14th century), but inside it’s clear they’ve done the renovations right. Not the sterile, corporate kind of renovation – more like someone who actually cares about the place brought it thoughtfully into the modern era.

The rooms hit that tricky balance between historic character and genuine comfort. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and honestly, the heating worked perfectly – which, if you’ve spent time in older European hotels, you know isn’t always a given. The windows are properly soundproofed too, which matters because Havelská can get lively, especially when the market’s in full swing in the mornings. What I really appreciated was how they kept original details like the wooden beams and stone accents but didn’t go overboard with the medieval theme. The beds are actually comfortable (firm but not rock-hard), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure – little things that make a huge difference when you’ve been walking Prague’s cobblestones all day.

Here’s the thing about the location that the typical tourist descriptions don’t tell you – you’re a three-minute walk from Wenceslas Square, but more importantly, you’re right in the network of small streets where you’ll find the cafés and wine bars that locals frequent. Lokál Dlouhááá is basically around the corner if you want proper Czech pub food without the tourist markup, and you can cut through to Charles Bridge via Karlova Street without dealing with the main crowds. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood too – they pointed me toward a wine shop on Melantrichova that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready early, which was clutch after an overnight flight), and they store luggage without making it feel like you’re asking for a huge favor. I mean, for a 4-star place with a 9 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for – that combination of being professionally run but still feeling like someone’s paying attention to the details that actually matter to travelers.
