Hotel Ikona

Prague, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Ikona? Walking up to this narrow building on Míšeňská street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked into what looks like just another Prague side street. But here’s the thing — sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight, and this little gem absolutely proves that point.

The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the castle grounds, but you’re on this quiet cobblestone street that most tourists completely miss. Míšeňská runs parallel to the main tourist drag, so you get all the convenience without the constant stream of tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM (trust me, that matters when you’re trying to sleep off a night exploring Prague’s beer scene). The staff here genuinely seem to care — not in that over-the-top way that feels fake, but more like they actually want you to have a good time in their city. During check-in, the guy at the front desk marked up a little map for me with his personal restaurant recommendations, including this tiny wine bar around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to make a historic building feel comfortable without losing its character. The rooms aren’t huge — this is Prague’s Lesser Town, so space is premium — but everything feels thoughtfully designed. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many European hotels miss this basic requirement), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you don’t feel like you’re roughing it. I stayed in October when the weather was getting crisp, and the heating worked perfectly, which… well, let’s just say that’s not always a given in older Prague buildings. The WiFi was solid throughout the building too, even up on the higher floors.

Honestly, the 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be a luxury palace or compete with the big chain hotels — it’s just doing everything really well. The breakfast spread was simple but fresh, with good coffee (crucial) and local pastries that actually tasted homemade. Parking can be tricky in this area if you’re driving — the streets are narrow and mostly cobblestone — but there’s a public garage about a five-minute walk away that the hotel can direct you to.

What I keep coming back to is how this place feels like Prague without feeling like a tourist trap. You’re close enough to walk to Charles Bridge or the Astronomical Clock when you want to do the classic sightseeing, but you’re staying somewhere that feels connected to the actual neighborhood. I’d walk out in the morning to grab coffee and see locals heading to work, not just other travelers with cameras. For the price point, especially considering you’re staying in one of Prague’s most historic districts, Hotel Ikona delivers way more than you’d expect. It’s the kind of place I’d actually book again — and coming from someone who rarely stays at the same hotel twice, that’s saying something.

Prague hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Old Town Square to elegant castle-view hotels and modern accommodations near Wenceslas Square.

Very well located just next to the Charles bridge. Good room, great breakfast and wine bar as part of the hotel.

Very outstanding selection of fresh breads/meats/cheese/smoothies/oatmeal/granola/juices/drinks. Then you also get the hot breakfast included. Made fresh and very quickly. Very nice facility, clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: We were fortunate to sit by the window seat on the street side 2/3 mornings. Due to the size of the dining area there is only one seat by the window. Wish there were more so people could enjoy but totally understandable.

A good hotel in an excellent location with very helpful staff, high quality fittings in the ensuite and a high level of cleanliness. The breakfast was very well presented.

What could be improved: Seemed a little over priced for Prague and it really lacked a public lounge as the breakfast room and adjacent wine bar did not really fulfil this role.
