Hotel Golden Key Prague Castle Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Prague hotels, and Hotel Golden Key Prague Castle is one of those places that just gets it right. Walking up Nerudova Street to get there is honestly half the experience – you’re literally climbing the royal coronation route that kings used to take up to the castle. I mean, how cool is that? The hotel sits right in the thick of it all, in this gorgeous baroque building that somehow manages to feel both historic and comfortable.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between tourist convenience and authentic Prague charm. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Prague Castle (seriously, you can see the spires from some rooms), but the street itself has this wonderful mix of local pubs and artisan shops that aren’t completely overrun with tour groups. The Golden Key gets busy during summer – I’d definitely book ahead if you’re coming between May and September – but even then, the staff manages to keep things running smoothly. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal hotel rigmarole.

The rooms themselves feel properly Prague, if that makes sense. Lots of exposed beams, thick walls that actually keep the street noise down (which matters on Nerudova, trust me), and bathrooms that work well without trying too hard to be fancy. I stayed in one of the castle-view rooms and honestly, waking up to see the sun hitting those ancient walls… well, it beats staring at another hotel across the street. The beds are solid – firm but not rock-hard – and the WiFi actually works throughout the building, which isn’t always a given in these old structures. One small thing that impressed me: they’ve got proper blackout curtains, so you can actually sleep past sunrise if you want to recover from exploring Prague’s excellent beer scene the night before.

You know what really sets this place apart though? The location gives you options. You can walk down to Old Town Square in about fifteen minutes, or head up to the castle gardens when you need a break from the crowds. There’s this little wine bar called U Fleku just down the hill that locals actually go to, and honestly, having the Golden Key as your base means you can stumble back uphill after a proper Czech evening without needing a taxi. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but it delivers exactly what you want: comfort, character, and a location that makes you feel like you’re really experiencing the city rather than just visiting it.

No words can describe how thankful and happy I was visiting Prague and especially staying in Hotel Golden Key! Hotel staff was so nice, friendly and made sure the guests' stay was top notch! Welcome snacks, lovely and smelling good body care products, daily room cleaning, coffee refill, maps and “must visit” lists – everything was perfect! Special thanks to administrators and kitchen workers for breakfast to go preparation!

I will definitely visit Prague again and without a doubt stay in this Hotel again! Thank you so much!

  • Deborah from United States – 30 March 2025 (9/10)

It was really cute and clean.

What could be improved: Very small rooms, breakfast starts too late, and no shuttle to the airport

  • Kegler from Australia – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

Very warm & hospitable staff. Efficient and friendly.

  • Frullini from Italy – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

Very good breakfast buffet. Super comfy beds. Tidy and cosy room in the attic. We were forced to leave early in the morning due to a flight rescheduling and the staff agreed in having a basic yet much appreciated breakfast box to go. Thank you!!

What could be improved: Maybe just a couple more hangers in the closet would be a nice add on. 🙂

  • Pablo from Costa Rica – 8 January 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is located in the heart of the historical centre of Prague. Just a 5 minutes walk fron the Charles bridge and 10 minutes from Prague's castle. The area is sourrounded by cafes and restaurants and you can walk across the historical centre. This hotel is an excelent choice.

  • Sean from United Kingdom – 6 January 2025 (8/10)

Friendly and professional reception and great value for money. Excellent location for sightseeing whilst also relatively peaceful.

What could be improved: Small quibbles about how echoing the staircase is, and perhaps the coffee at the breakfast could be better.

  • Meg from Australia – 4 January 2025 (8/10)

Vety pretty place to stay. The rooms were very nicely decorated, and the beds were quite comfortable. The breakfast was really great too.

What could be improved: One of the staff was quite rude to my partner when reporting the shower door had been broken by previous guests and wouldn't close.

Out of the crowds in the main squares, little bars and restaurants nearby and quiet in the mornings and late at night
