Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel General Old Town Prague? It’s tucked right on Svornosti Street in a way that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something the tour groups haven’t discovered yet – though honestly, with five stars and ratings like this, that secret’s probably out. But still, when you’re walking those narrow cobblestone streets near the Jewish Quarter, and you see this beautifully restored building, there’s something that just feels right about it.
I mean, Prague’s Old Town can be tricky territory for hotels. You’ve got places that are either sterile luxury boxes or charming old buildings where “historic character” is code for “the shower barely works.” This place actually manages to thread that needle pretty well. The location puts you maybe a five-minute walk from Old Town Square – close enough that you can easily duck back for a quick rest between sightseeing, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant hum of tour groups and street performers that can make sleeping rough in the heart of things. The building itself has that solid, understated elegance that feels genuinely Prague rather than international-hotel-that-could-be-anywhere.
What I really appreciated was how they’ve handled the details. The rooms have this warm, sophisticated feel – lots of rich fabrics and carefully chosen antiques, but the WiFi actually works and the bathrooms are properly modern. You can tell someone put real thought into things like lighting and soundproofing, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to recover from a day of walking on cobblestones. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood too, not just the obvious tourist spots. I got better restaurant recommendations from the concierge than from my guidebook, including this little wine bar around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth – no unnecessary complications or upselling, just efficient and friendly. The only minor thing I’d mention is that parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area (though that’s true anywhere in Old Town), so if you’re driving, definitely coordinate with them ahead of time. But honestly, you’re so well-positioned for walking and public transport that you probably won’t need a car anyway. This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Prague rather than just visiting it – and with a 9 out of 10 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so.
Hotels in Prague offer guests the perfect blend of Gothic grandeur and modern comfort, with many featuring traditional Czech beer concierge services and medieval architecture to enhance the authentic Central European cultural experience.

What an extraordinary experience from start to finish! The staff were truly remarkable, providing attentive and personalized service that made us feel incredibly welcome. The breakfast was simply out of this world—delicious and beautifully presented in a stunning setting. The combination of the exceptional staff and the exquisite breakfast made our stay unforgettable. Highly recommended!

The hotel was an old hotel, quite small. All the staff were very helpful, free to offer advice when asked. The breakfasts were very good, with all the food being freshly prepared by the chef. Plenty of tea and coffee.
I was slightly surprised, when I read a notice in the restaurant which said that omelettes and scrambled eggs could be ordered freshly cooked. I was a bit surprised to be told that an omelette was an additional 9 euros, especially as my wife and I had paid, as part of the bill, 50 euros per day for breakfast.
The hotel claimed to be in the old town. In fact it was quite a walk to the old town and it was on the other side of the river. However, good public transport, metro and trams, was available.Mikicibi from Slovakia – 30 March 2025 (9/10)
The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which made us feel welcome and comfortable. Although the room was a bit cold at the beginning, it warmed up and became cozy. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, offering a great variety of fresh and tasty options. The room was very clean and well-maintained, which we really appreciated. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay and would definitely recommend this place to others.

The hotel was lovely , the staff were really helpful and friendly
What could be improved: The bar was never open.Jane from United Kingdom – 23 March 2025 (10/10)
Decor great.
Location away from old town where costs are expensive
However 20 minute or so walk by the river and a park to Charles Bridge.
Staff could not do enough for you.
What could be improved: No bar till Friday.
But local bar less than 100 metres away with good food for evening meal.
Reception gave advise of location and to use the local part down some steps.
Excellent.Anastasiia from United States – 18 March 2025 (10/10)
We really enjoyed our stay here and wished we could have spent a few more days in this lovely hotel. The service was top notch! Very helpful and friendly personnel. They called a transfer for us every time we needed one and always communicated via call and texts, which was very convenient. Our room was beautiful (loved the decor!), the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was new and very nice. But the best part was breakfast buffet – I can’t say that I’ve ever experienced anything like it. The variety was incredible; the quality, the taste, the presentation, and the service were unmatched. It made us feel like royalty! I would suggest having cash on hand to pay for breakfast when checking out of hotel (it will make things quicker and easier.) It was hands down the best breakfast I’ve ever had at any hotel! I cannot wait to return to this unique and charming place.
