Hotel Description

So I’ve stayed at Hotel Galileo a few times now, and honestly? It’s become my go-to spot in Prague when I want something nicer than a hostel but don’t need all the fuss of those massive luxury chains. The thing is, it sits on Bruselská street in Vinohrady – which, if you know Prague at all, means you’re in this lovely residential area that feels properly Czech, not just tourist central.

The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate. It’s not trying too hard, you know? When you walk in, there’s this subtle Art Nouveau influence that nods to Prague’s architectural heritage without being cheesy about it. The lobby actually smells faintly of cedar (I think it’s from their cleaning products or maybe the wood paneling), and the check-in process is refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, no lengthy presentations about spa packages you don’t want. The staff genuinely seem to know the neighborhood well, which matters more than you’d think. Last time I was there, the front desk guy gave me walking directions to this tiny wine bar on Korunní that I never would’ve found otherwise.

What really sets this place apart is the location – you’re close enough to walk to Wenceslas Square in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the crowds and noise that come with staying right in the Old Town. The trams run regularly from nearby stops, and I mean regularly – every few minutes during the day. There’s something satisfying about staying somewhere that locals actually live and work, where the corner shop sells proper Czech bread and the morning sounds are more about people heading to work than tour groups gathering. The rooms are well-appointed without being flashy – good beds (actually good, not hotel-marketing good), decent water pressure, and windows that open properly, which is surprisingly rare. I will say the WiFi can be a bit spotty on the upper floors, but honestly, that’s half of Prague’s older buildings. The breakfast is solid Czech fare with some international options, though if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll want to get down there before 8:30 when it gets crowded. The neighborhood comes alive nicely in the evenings – there are several excellent restaurants within a few blocks, and the whole area has this relaxed, lived-in vibe that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Prague rather than just visiting it. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly doing something right, and after multiple stays, I’d say that rating feels about right – it’s a solid, comfortable choice that delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises.

  • Mark from Japan – 22 August 2024 (9/10)

Great hotel at a very central location. We asked for a baby crib and it was really nice and our baby slept well in it. Breakfast was also nice.

  • Kieran from United Kingdom – 10 March 2025 (9/10)

    Location to the city centre
    Spacious and clean rooms
    Polite staff

  • George from Greece – 13 February 2025 (8/10)

Value for money. Paid about 70€ for a double room. Cleaning is perfects rooms are spacious, breakfast is good. Tram station is 5 min walk

Superb choice for resting after long walks in the city. If you need to stay more at the Hotel, I wouldn’t recommend it.

What could be improved: No TV (only a few channels), no gym, no restaurant.

  • Darren from Canada – 31 December 2024 (9/10)

Great location and breakfast. The room was quiet, spacious and comfortable.

  • Fuentes from Chile – 15 September 2024 (9/10)

    Limpio, seguro, confortable

  • Phil from United Kingdom – 2 September 2024 (8/10)

Very clean & 25/30 mins walk away from the main tourist spots

What could be improved: Couldn’t find any faults

  • John from United Kingdom – 26 August 2024 (9/10)

Great location with some good local restaurants. Short walk into the centre.

What could be improved: A little dated.

  • Adam from Romania – 20 August 2024 (9/10)

The breakfast was various and delicious, the view of the 5'th floor where the breakfast was served was superb, the room I got was huge and clean and the place had many great terraces nearby. The staff was very kind and prompt each time.

What could be improved: The room had a strange smell sometimes – it was like the waste rejection didn't always function properly. Anyhow, keeping the window open solved the problem, so it was not a big minus.

  • Catherine from United Kingdom – 24 July 2024 (9/10)

The location was perfect – even though in Praha 2 , the tram stop was very close, and you could get anywhere around the city by Googling the right tram line and numbers.
There was no need to stay in more expensive Praha 1
Our room was airy because we got not just the twin bedroom we booked, but a sitting and dining area and small hallway that led to our bathroom and separate twin bedroom – No toilet/ shower in the bedroom here 👌 I did not expect that . Although we didn't really use the sitting / dining room , it made us feel less hot or claustrophobic as you can sometimes feel when stuck in only a bedroom all the time.
I also loved the beautiful old staircase .

What could be improved: The man on reception was not welcoming, although everyone else was .
The TV and Remote control in the room did not work well

  • Ludvik from Canada – 19 July 2024 (9/10)

    Spacious room, big bed

What could be improved: I missed ordinary rolls (rohliky) for breakfast
