Hotel Description

You know what hits you first about Hotel Certovka? It’s that feeling when you stumble onto something that feels way too good to be true in Prague’s Lesser Town. I mean, you’re literally staying on this narrow cobblestone street that most tourists walk right past while they’re rushing to the castle – but honestly, that’s exactly why this place works so well.

The hotel sits in what used to be a 17th-century building, and they’ve kept all the character without making you suffer through medieval plumbing (thank god). My room had these gorgeous wooden beams across the ceiling and windows that looked out onto Kampa Island – which, if you haven’t been, is basically this little oasis tucked between the Vltava River and the Certovka stream. Actually, that’s where the hotel gets its name from, the little stream that runs right there. You can hear the water if you open your windows at night, which is surprisingly soothing after a day of navigating Prague’s tourist crowds. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re not huge, but they feel cozy rather than cramped. European cozy, you know? Everything’s thoughtfully placed, and the beds are actually comfortable – I slept better there than I have in some five-star places, honestly.

What really makes this spot special though is the location. You’re a three-minute walk from Charles Bridge (but blessedly removed from the chaos), and Petrin Hill is right there when you want to escape the city buzz entirely. The staff – and this sounds cheesy but it’s true – actually seem to like their jobs. The woman at reception gave me this whole rundown of which restaurants to hit and which ones are tourist traps, plus she sorted out my early check-in without any drama. There’s this tiny courtyard where you can have breakfast when the weather’s decent, and it feels like you’re in someone’s private garden rather than a hotel. The breakfast itself is pretty solid – nothing fancy, but proper Czech pastries and good coffee, which is really all you need before spending the day wandering around. One thing though – if you’re planning to drive, forget about it. I mean, you *can* park nearby, but you’ll pay through the nose and spend twenty minutes maneuvering through streets that were definitely not designed for cars. Take the tram from the airport or just walk everywhere once you’re there. Trust me on this one. The whole Lesser Town is basically made for walking anyway, and you’ll want to explore every little alley and courtyard you can find.

  • David from United Kingdom – 18 January 2025 (9/10)

Excellent customer service – probably the best we have ever received from both reception members.

A special thank you to Stepanka who looked after us after having 3 flight cancellations in January 2025 due to extreme weather in the UK.

Close to old the town and next to Charles Bridge with new town 15 minute walk – very clean / spotless – just a lovely setting.

What could be improved: Nothing all good.

  • Laura from Canada – 3 January 2025 (8/10)

    Great staff and comfortable room.

What could be improved: I wish they had an ice machine or access to ice in the kitchen for evening drinks in our room.

  • Emma from Canada – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

Amazing location in Mala Strana just by Charles Bridge – I had a view of it from my window. Well equipped room and good size. Buffet breakfast was very good with hot food (eggs, vegetables, meats), cold meat/cheese/vegetables, yogurts, cereal, rolls, and delicious fresh pastries. Coffee and tea are available all day.

What could be improved: I would have liked a double bed but the single wasn't too narrow.

  • Sian from United Kingdom – 28 December 2024 (9/10)

Location fantastic and style of hotel lovely. Breakfast was good with plenty of buffet options. Staff helpful.
