Overview

You know what surprised me about Hotel Avion? It’s actually got this whole retro aviation theme going on that could’ve been cheesy, but somehow they pulled it off without making it feel like a kids’ playground. The place sits on Kladenská street, which honestly isn’t the most glamorous address in Prague – it’s sort of tucked away in the Smíchov area – but that’s exactly why it works.

I mean, you’re not paying Old Town prices here, but you’re still only about fifteen minutes from the action by tram. The 12 and 20 lines run pretty regularly, and there’s this little grocery store right around the corner that becomes your best friend when you realize hotel breakfast gets old after day three. The rooms are clean and actually bigger than what you’d expect from a 3-star place – I had enough space to spread out my stuff without living out of a suitcase the whole time. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, though the pillows are a bit soft if you’re used to firmer ones. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being near a main street would mean traffic noise, but the windows do their job well.

The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given at this price point. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk guy actually gave me solid recommendations for places to eat that weren’t just tourist traps. That 8.4 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing the basics really well. The breakfast is decent (nothing fancy, but the coffee’s strong and there’s enough variety to keep you happy), and they’ve got this small lobby area where you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling rushed. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – street parking mostly, but the neighborhood feels safe walking around even in the evening. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to experience Prague more like a local and less like someone checking boxes off a tourist list.

Good access to trains/metro/buses just a few blocks walk away, beautiful, clean rooms

Beautiful lobby and room, accomodated my early morning leave well (bag breakfast), provided fan on pre-visit request, held my extra suitcase when I went to Pilsen for a few days

Superb

Helpful staff and very nice. Breakfast was good. The underground link is 7 minutes walk into the heart of Prague.

What could be improved: No air-conditioning or even a fan.
