Hotel Augustus et Otto Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Augustus et Otto? The name itself sounds like some old Austrian emperors decided to open a boutique hotel together, and honestly, that’s not far off from the vibe when you walk in. It’s tucked right on Na Celné street, which—if you don’t know Prague—is basically a stone’s throw from the Powder Tower and maybe a three-minute stumble from the chaos of Wenceslas Square. The location is actually pretty brilliant because you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with hen parties stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

The building itself has that classic Central European thing going on where it looks properly historic from the outside but inside they’ve done this interesting mix of old and new. I mean, you’ll find original architectural details—think high ceilings and those beautiful moldings—but the rooms feel updated without being sterile. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing, which is refreshing after some of the hit-or-miss service you get at Prague hotels that are basically just cashing in on the tourist boom. When I checked in, the guy at reception actually gave me specific recommendations for restaurants in Vinohrady (not the obvious touristy spots) and knew which tram lines were running late that week.

What I really appreciated was how the place felt… well, sort of grown-up without being stuffy. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me—it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s solid and comfortable, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The rooms are a decent size by European standards, and the beds are actually good (I’m picky about this stuff). There’s street noise, but it’s the gentle hum of a city neighborhood, not construction or club music. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare, nothing revolutionary, but the coffee was better than I expected. One thing worth mentioning—if you’re planning to drive, parking around there can be a bit of a nightmare during peak season, but the hotel can sort something out for you if you ask ahead of time. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just crashing at a generic chain hotel, and in Prague’s Old Town area, that’s actually harder to find than you’d think.

Reviews of Hotel Augustus et Otto

  • Diana from Romania – 27 September 2022 (8/10)

Excellent price for accommodation in Prague in a very good location – 2 km far away from the Old Town, but close to other attraction, bars, restaurants. Comfort and cleanliness nailed!

What could be improved: Walls looked a little bit worn out, but it didn't matter at all.

  • Sergey from Ukraine – 19 March 2025 (9/10)

Best location. Very clean and friendly staff. Everything you need is in the area. My room had a view of the courtyard. So it was very quiet.

What could be improved: Only the fan in the bathroom didn't work, and it was never fixed during my stay. Even though I asked.

  • Steven from United Kingdom – 16 February 2025 (8/10)

    Didn’t have breakfast ,Great location

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Daniel from Czech Republic – 6 February 2025 (8/10)

    Great service.
Calm place. I really like the location.

What could be improved: For some reason they charge 125 Kč (5 eur) for a 2 nights city fee, instead of 100 Kč (4 eur) as prescribed.

  • Peter from United Kingdom – 14 November 2024 (9/10)

Nice hotel a bit off the beaten track but easily reached by public transport, tram stop just a couple of minutes away, metro also near by. Plenty of restaurants close by. After leaving we realised a purse had been left in a bed side drawer so we contacted the hotel to let them know and they had it ready for us to collect at reception the next morning.

What could be improved: All was good

  • Yetesh from Malaysia – 18 October 2024 (8/10)

Place was clean, all basic amenities provided.
    Spacious room.

What could be improved: Shower door was not working in our room…and it is certainly not a 4 star hotel…key chain attached to room key is huge and heavy cant just slip into your pocket.

  • Iuli from Brazil – 23 September 2024 (8/10)

Good bed. Clean. Staff was nice. Location not perfect but very good.

What could be improved: I think that it was a bit expensive, but maybe that's Prague pricing. The breakfast is in another building, but i ended up not using it.

  • Anna from Poland – 27 July 2024 (8/10)

Comfy bed, very nice and helpful staff, good internet connection.

  • Clarissa from United Kingdom – 16 June 2024 (9/10)

Room cleaning every day was nice

  • Patel from United Kingdom – 7 June 2024 (8/10)

The staff were very friendly, it was clean and in a reasonable location.

What could be improved: There were sky lights in the room so in the morning, a lot of sun came in so we found it difficult to sleep in.
