High Heaven

Prague, Czech Republic
8 Kaprova, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what struck me first about High Heaven? The name sounds almost cheesy until you actually step inside this renovated baroque building on Kaprova Street, and then it sort of makes sense. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Old Town Square – and I’m talking about the kind of walk where you’re dodging other tourists taking selfies, not some “conveniently located” marketing nonsense that turns out to be a 15-minute trek.

The thing about staying right in Prague’s historic center is that most places either feel like museums or complete tourist traps, but High Heaven manages to thread that needle pretty well. The rooms have this nice balance of modern comfort without trying too hard to be trendy – honestly, after a long day of walking those cobblestones (and trust me, your feet will feel every single one), you’ll appreciate that they actually invested in decent mattresses and proper blackout curtains. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood inside and out, which matters more than you’d think. They’ll tell you which entrance to use for Prague Castle to skip the worst crowds, or where to grab coffee that doesn’t cost tourist prices – there’s this little place on Maiselova that locals actually use.

What really sold me on this place though was the quietness. I was worried about noise since you’re literally in the thick of everything, but the windows are surprisingly good at blocking out the street sounds, and by 10 PM even rowdy Kaprova calms down considerably. The building itself has character without being fussy about it – original wooden beams, high ceilings that actually make the rooms feel spacious rather than cramped. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal hotel ritual where they act like you’re checking into Buckingham Palace. The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but everything just works the way it should. And look, parking in this part of Prague is basically impossible anyway, so don’t even think about driving here. But the tram connections are solid, and you can walk to most of the major sights without your phone dying from constantly checking maps. During high season (basically May through September), book early because word’s getting out about this place, but if you can snag a room here, you’ll understand why people keep coming back.

Absolutely thrilled with this property. The rooms were very clean, there were washing facilities, and the location was perfect for walking to every single attraction we wanted to see.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect.

Located so conveniently to the Staromestska metro station. Nice friendly check-in with reception at 14:00. Gave us lunch-cafe recommendation. Inside, larger room than expected. Comfortable beds with bedside lights. Good room temperature. Ample storage in Wardrobe. Useful small desk for my laptop. Complimentary tea was nice. Well-lit bathroom with shower with modern taps, little shower gels bottles, and mini hand soaps. Hair-dryer was handy. Separate toilet room. Good ventilation in both. I realized afterward that High Heavens kindly upgraded me for free from Elegant Suite to Deluxe Suite 1 which was double the size with an extra living room - Thank you High Heavens! It's normal practice for them to come make the bed and change any dirty towels (unless you put the sign on the door) more like a hotel (less like an airbnb - which was great!). The heater made a small noise, but I messaged them and they came and fixed it - very efficient! Access to floor 1 via stairs and lift - no issues with carrying luggage up. Deluxe Suite 1 apartment door sits behind an exterior door - felt very secure behind two doors. Building across from bar, but with double windows, and almost nobody around, I didn't hear much through the evening. The location is so good. Several coffee/breakfast/cafe/restaurants nearby. Easy walk to Klementium, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge. Express check out by dropping the key off in the mailbox. Stayed 3 nights and I would recommend it, and would definitely stay here again.

What could be improved: Trying to think of something more that could be improved but honestly can't think of anything. High Heavens has done a really nice job setting up this hotel/apartment. Thank you so much for making my Prague weekend stay perfect.

The building’s proximity to the metro and the city center is quite convenient. Additionally, staying in a historical building adds a unique charm to the experience. The staff’s friendliness and their constant communication with us via WhatsApp were also positive aspects. Another noteworthy point was that they provided a place for our luggage until the evening after we checked out. Since our flight was late, we had to leave the city around 16:30, and this service made things much easier for us.

The attic room, naturally, was a bit small; however, the bathroom and sink area were spacious and comfortable.

What could be improved: The wooden parquet floors were a nice touch, although the entrance area showed some discoloration due to foot traffic.

I have a few suggestions for improvement:
• We adjusted the radiator temperature manually using the control knobs beneath the radiators. However, there were some electronic control buttons in the bathroom, but we couldn’t figure out their function or how to use them, as there was no guide available.
• In the attic room, the slanted ceiling poses a risk of bumping one’s head, especially at night. A small warning sign in that area could help prevent accidents.
• The name of the building above the entrance door is hard to see. Placing a more visible and clearly readable sign would make it easier for guests to find the location.
