Grand Petit Hotel ex Shato Gesson Overview
You know what struck me first about the Grand Petit Hotel ex Shato Gesson? The name itself tells you everything – it’s this wonderfully quirky mix of grandeur and intimacy that somehow works perfectly in Prague. I mean, you’re staying in what was actually a château, tucked away on Na Dolnici street in Smíchov, which honestly feels like you’ve discovered some local secret that most tourists walking around Old Town have no idea exists.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Prague at all. You’re far enough from the madness of Wenceslas Square to get some peace (and trust me, you’ll appreciate this when you’re trying to sleep), but close enough that you can hop on tram 12 or 20 and be in the center in about fifteen minutes. What I really loved was walking down to the Vltava riverbank in the mornings – there’s this lovely path that locals use for jogging, and you get these incredible views of Prague Castle without fighting through crowds of selfie sticks. The hotel sits in this quiet residential area where you’ll hear church bells instead of tour groups, which is honestly refreshing.
Inside, it’s got that authentic Central European charm that you can’t fake – think original hardwood floors that creak just enough to feel historic but not annoying, and these gorgeous high ceilings that make even the smaller rooms feel spacious. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too. When I asked about good coffee nearby, they didn’t just point me to the nearest Starbucks but recommended this tiny local café around the corner where the barista makes this incredible trdelník latte (yes, that’s a thing, and yes, it’s as good as it sounds). The breakfast setup is simple but solid – fresh bread from a local bakery, proper Czech ham, and coffee that’s actually strong enough to wake you up for a day of sightseeing. It’s a 3-star place, sure, but it punches above its weight because the details feel thoughtful rather than corporate. The rooms are clean and comfortable, wifi works everywhere, and there’s this lovely little courtyard where you can sit with a beer in the evenings and plan your next day without feeling like you’re in some tourist bubble. Honestly, for the price and that 8.4 rating, it makes total sense – you’re getting authentic Prague without the premium you’d pay for being right on the Charles Bridge.

Very nice small hotel, close to the metro line – around 10 min walking. So you can be wherever you want in Prague within 25 mins.
It’s just near the park so there is so quiet, you can relax and listen to the birds in the mornings.
The breakfast is reasonable, the same every morning but you can find something to eat. We are not exigent when comes to breakfast so for us it was ok.
There are free parking in front of the hotel, but this depends when you get there. But if you can’t find it there, the street is quite large and definitely you’ll find a free space – you don’t have to worry about this aspect.
