Golem

Prague, Czech Republic
17 Maiselova, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Maiselova Street looking for the Golem – I mean, it’s tucked right in the heart of Prague’s Jewish Quarter, and honestly, a lot of hotels in touristy areas can be pretty disappointing. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The building itself has this understated charm that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s vibe. You’re literally steps away from the Old Jewish Cemetery and the synagogues, which sounds like it could be overwhelming with tour groups, but the Golem manages to feel like a quiet refuge despite being right in the thick of things. The staff – and I’m not just saying this – actually seem to know Prague beyond the typical tourist script. When I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward Wenceslas Square like most places would. He gave me the tram route that locals use and mentioned this little wine bar I never would’ve found otherwise.

What really got me was the attention to small details that you don’t usually see at four-star places. The rooms aren’t huge (honestly, you’re in Prague’s old quarter, what do you expect?), but everything feels thoughtfully designed rather than just crammed in. The beds are actually comfortable – I slept better there than I have at some five-star chains – and the bathrooms have this modern elegance without trying too hard to be trendy. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t feel the need to assault you with marble and gold everywhere. The breakfast room overlooks a quiet courtyard, and in the mornings you can hear the city waking up without feeling like you’re in the middle of a construction zone. I mean, Prague can get pretty noisy, especially during summer when the crowds are intense, but the Golem’s location on Maiselova keeps you close enough to walk everywhere while still being able to actually sleep at night.

What sealed the deal for me was realizing how perfectly positioned you are for exploring beyond the obvious tourist stuff. Sure, you can walk to Old Town Square in about five minutes, but you’re also right there for wandering into Letná Park or catching a concert at the Rudolfinum without dealing with the hassle of getting back to some hotel across the river. The whole Josefov district has this incredible energy once the day-trip crowds thin out – there’s something almost mystical about walking these streets in the early evening when the light hits the old buildings just right. And honestly, with a 9.6 rating, I expected good service, but the team here goes beyond that. They remember your name, they actually listen when you ask for recommendations, and they seem genuinely invested in making sure you experience Prague the way it deserves to be experienced, not just the postcard version.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Prague through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich medieval heritage.

Phenomenal stay! The host set out all kinds of treats, stocked the mini fridge with water, a pilsner and a bottle of bubbly.

Room was clean, modern, and well set up.

Location was excellent smack dab in the middle of the Jewish Quarter, we were able to walk everywhere very comfortably.

For the price this was a 10/10.

What could be improved: Only issue was noise, but we've lived in major cities before so wasn't a big deal. But, if you struggle sleeping with street noise this might not be the ideal spot.
