So I stumbled across Golden Well purely by accident – well, actually my friend who works in Prague’s tourism office wouldn’t shut up about it, and honestly? She was right to be obsessed. This place sits tucked away on U Zlaté Studně, which translates to “Golden Well” (clever, right?), and it’s one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’ve discovered some secret corner of Lesser Town that other tourists just walk right past.

The thing about this hotel is that it occupies this incredible baroque building that’s literally built into the hillside below Prague Castle. I mean, you can practically reach out and touch the castle walls from some rooms – okay, not literally, but you get what I’m saying. The views are absolutely ridiculous, especially if you snag one of the terrace rooms. I stayed there in late September, and honestly, sitting on that terrace with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the red rooftops… it’s the kind of moment that makes you understand why people fall in love with this city. The staff mentioned that spring and early fall are when the terrace really shines – summer gets pretty packed with tourists, and well, winter in Prague is beautiful but you’re not exactly lounging outside.

What really got me though was how they’ve managed to keep that old-world Prague charm without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have these gorgeous period details – original wooden beams, antique furnishings that actually look comfortable – but then you’ve got modern bathrooms that don’t make you curse medieval plumbing. The breakfast setup overlooks the Petřin Hill gardens, and you can actually hear the peacocks from the castle grounds in the morning, which sounds weird but is surprisingly lovely. Parking was way easier than I expected too – they’ve got a garage situation figured out, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate a car through those narrow cobblestone streets, you’ll appreciate. Check-in was smooth, though the front desk staff definitely know their stuff about local recommendations. They steered me toward this little wine bar on Nerudova Street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and away from some tourist traps I was definitely about to fall into.

The only thing I’d mention – and this isn’t really a complaint – is that the location is so perfectly tucked away that you might find yourself just staying put instead of exploring. I mean, when you’re sitting in what feels like your own private corner of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, with that 9.7 rating totally making sense once you’re there, it’s tempting to just order room service and pretend you live there. But honestly, that’s probably not the worst problem to have. If you’re looking for something special in Prague, and you don’t mind paying for that “pinch me, is this real” factor, Golden Well delivers in a way that’ll probably ruin other hotels for you.

  The Golden Well is in a perfect location, on the western side of the River Vltava and slightly separated from the busiest streets throughout town. It's quiet, impeccably maintained and the staff are very helpful. Their rooftop restaurant, which hosts breakfast, has an expansive view over the city and was a perfect place to enjoy delicious food and start the day. We will definitely stay here again.

  The staff were very friendly especially David. The hotel was so inviting and cozy – a few minutes walk from Charles Bridge and The Old Town. Breakfast room is on 4th floor with view over the city. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety and again very helpful staff.

  Top notch all around with a helpful outgoing staff. We had an exceptionally clean room with comfortable bed. The Hotel is a great location, very quiet on a dead end, but only a short walk(5 min max)to public transportation ( tram line with multiple connections to get anywhere in the city). Neighborhood bars and restaurants both geared toward tourists and local spots a stones throw away. It was very walkable to big attractions like the castle, museums and Charles Bridge. I spent way too much research trying to find the right place to stay in Prague having never been there before. Beat my expectations in every way.
