Hotel Description
You know what really struck me about the Golden Star? It’s tucked right into Nerudova Street – and I mean literally built into this historic cobblestone stretch that winds up toward Prague Castle. Most people just rush past these buildings on their way to the castle, but honestly, staying here puts you in the middle of one of Prague’s most atmospheric neighborhoods. The building itself has that solid Central European feel, where you can tell it’s been welcoming travelers for decades.
The thing about Nerudova is it gets pretty touristy during the day (I mean, it’s basically the main route to the castle), but come evening? It transforms into something completely different. You’ll hear street musicians echoing off the medieval walls, and there’s this cozy hum from the little pubs and restaurants tucked into the ground floors of these old houses. The Golden Star sits right in this mix – close enough that you can stumble back after dinner, but the rooms are surprisingly quiet considering all the foot traffic outside. They’ve done a good job with the windows, actually.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that most guests are here for more than just a bed. They knew which tram stops to recommend (skip the touristy routes and take the 22 up to Pohořelec if you want amazing views), and they actually had useful suggestions about timing your castle visit. The rooms themselves strike this nice balance – they’ve updated everything you actually care about (decent shower pressure, reliable wifi, proper blackout curtains) while keeping some of the character that makes staying in Lesser Town special. I mean, you’re not going to get massive American-style rooms, but the space feels thoughtfully arranged rather than cramped.
The breakfast situation was better than I expected too – they serve it in this ground-floor space that opens onto the street, so you can watch Prague wake up while you’re having your coffee. And honestly, given that you’re maybe a 5-minute walk from some of the city’s best cafés and bakeries, having a solid base breakfast is all you really need. The location means you’re also walking distance from Kampa Island (seriously underrated for an evening stroll) and you can reach Old Town Square in about 15 minutes if you know the shortcuts through the side streets.
What pushed this place into “I’d definitely stay again” territory was just how effortless everything felt. Check-in was smooth, the neighborhood has this perfect mix of local life and visitor-friendly spots, and you’re positioned to explore both sides of the river without feeling like you’re constantly commuting. That 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers – it reflects the kind of place where small details are handled well, and you end up with more time to actually enjoy Prague instead of dealing with hotel hassles.

We loved this hotel, location was amazing, just underneath Prague castle, 20 minute walk to Charles Bridge and into the old town. The view from our superior room which was at the front of the hotel was amazing. A couple of afternoons we opened the large windows and sat there watching the world (& all the tourists) go by with a glass of wine in hand. Room was large, clean and luxuriously decorated. Bed and pillows very comfortable.
What could be improved: Not much to be honest. Only very slight niggle is the uphill walk to get to the hotel, which didn’t bother us.Ogechi from United States – 18 March 2025 (10/10)
Absolutely AMAZING!! Ive traveled around the world and this was one of thee best places I’ve stayed. They have everything you need. They put comfort first! Great location! I walked to and from all my excursions. Prague castle right up the hill. Breakfast was satisfying. The mini bar and fridge in the rooms are stacked with snacks and drinks. Restaurant is attached to hotel. Mini market across the street. Room has a surplus of toiletries, including robe, slippers, towels, body wash, hand wash, lotion, shampoo, blow dryer, etc. Golden Star staff are respectful and accommodating. The hotel is beautiful example of luxury on a budget. If you’re on the fence, please book this place!! You wont regret it.
What could be improved: The place was perfect! I didn’t want to leaveAna from Romania – 13 March 2025 (10/10)
Great hotel, super friendly and helpful staff (they have anything you need, information, public transportation tickets, transfers), early check-in, comfortable and clean room. The only thing is that you have to walk up a hill to get to the hotel, but it wasn’t a problem for us. Also, a big plus for the restaurant downstairs with a small terrace with a nice view. Good breakfast.

Got upgraded and had an amazing view and spacious room. Very comfy bed and pillows. Really liked the shower gels etc.
Bara from Czech Republic – 11 March 2025 (8/10)
View, soundproofing, cleanliness, staff
What could be improved: TV needs an upgrade to Smart TV, so streaming services or screen sharing can be used. Like this the TV is useless in modern times.
Amenities are nice, bit these days it's standard for hotel of this quality to also include toothbrushes.Alexandra from Austria – 10 March 2025 (10/10)
Easy to get to, quiet at night, nice room, great breakfast, friendly and helpful staff
