Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Garden Apartments on Na Smetance – the name sounds pretty generic, right? But you know what, sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the outside. This spot sits in a quieter part of Prague’s Vinohrady district, and I mean quiet in the best way possible. You’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of Old Town, but you’re also not stuck in the middle of nowhere.

The building itself has that classic Prague charm – you know, the kind of elegant architecture that makes you feel like you’re actually in Europe, not just some international hotel chain that could be anywhere. What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to the city center, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the nearest tram stop (though Náměstí Míru is literally a few minutes’ walk). He actually told me which car to get on to avoid the crowds and mentioned this little bakery on the way that locals hit up for morning coffee. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake.

The apartments themselves – and they really are proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge – feel like someone’s actual home. I’m talking full kitchens where you can cook real meals, living areas where you can spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase, and bedrooms that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The whole place has this lived-in comfort that’s hard to find, especially at this price point. Sure, the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but it’s tasteful and functional, which honestly matters more when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the practical stuff. Parking can be a nightmare in Prague, but they’ve got it sorted – you just need to mention it when you book. The internet actually works (I know, revolutionary concept), and the kitchen came stocked with basics so I wasn’t hunting down salt and coffee filters on my first morning. Small things, but they add up.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to Wenceslas Square in about fifteen minutes when you want the action, but you’re also surrounded by these tree-lined streets full of actual Praguers going about their daily lives. There’s a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant just around the corner – Vinohrady has this whole Vietnamese community that most tourists never discover – and the Saturday farmers market at Náměstí Míru is worth timing your stay around.

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Prague hotels, from the fancy ones near the castle to the budget places that smell like cigarettes from 1987. Garden Apartments hits this middle ground that’s actually pretty rare – comfortable without being sterile, local without being inconvenient, and reasonably priced without cutting corners on the stuff that matters. If you want to feel like you’re living in Prague rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

  Amazing flat! Very spacious and comfortable. Very well heated in winter. The staff were great, we had quite a few problems with our flights arriving there and they were very nice with regard to that. The location is great. There's a lift to go up to the flat.

  Perfect lo location, a short walk from the main train station. The apartment was well furnished, 2 bedrooms, and it was centrally located. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of the host. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a nice beverage of sweet mead from the host upon arrival. We also had access to nice toiletries from the host. These gestures were really thoughtful.

  This place is highly recommended. It has a great location near the city center, yet it's in a quiet area. Riegrovy Sady, a beautiful park, is just across the road. The apartments are in a well-maintained historic building, and everything we needed was provided. Thoughtful details, like handmade maps with places to visit and a vintage music box, show that the owners genuinely care about their guests' experience. The host was quick to respond and provided solutions to any questions we had. The apartments were very clean, and we received a complimentary cleaning during our stay.
  
  What could be improved: It was a bit cold at night, but the owner assured us that they would address this issue. We understand that this may take some time to resolve, so it's possible the problem has already been fixed.
