So I’ve stayed at the Esplanade Hotel Prague a handful of times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets better each visit. The location on Washingtonova is pretty much perfect – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the main train station, which sounds touristy but is actually brilliant because the metro connections mean you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with Prague’s increasingly crazy traffic.

The building itself has this gorgeous Art Nouveau thing going on that you notice immediately when you walk up. I mean, you’re in Prague, so everything’s beautiful, but the Esplanade has this particular elegance that feels authentic rather than renovated-to-death. The lobby smells like old wood and good coffee (there’s always fresh coffee, which – trust me on this – matters more than you think when you’re jet-lagged). Check-in is usually smooth, though I’d avoid arriving during conference season in spring when the place gets packed with business travelers. The staff actually remembers you if you stay more than a couple nights, which is rare these days.

What really sets this place apart is how it balances being fancy without being stuffy. The rooms are genuinely comfortable – I’m talking about beds that don’t feel like cardboard and bathrooms with actual water pressure. You know what I love? The windows actually open, so you can get fresh air instead of being trapped with recycled hotel climate. If you’re on the upper floors facing away from the street, it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. The bar downstairs is where locals actually hang out, not just hotel guests, which tells you something about the quality. And here’s a detail that matters – the elevators are modern and fast, because nobody wants to wait five minutes just to get to their room after walking around Prague’s cobblestones all day.

The neighborhood is honestly perfect for exploring. You’ve got Wenceslas Square just a few blocks away, but you’re far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. There’s this little bakery around the corner on Nekázanka that does incredible pastries if you want to skip the hotel breakfast sometimes (though their breakfast is solid too – proper Czech ham and fresh bread, not just generic continental stuff). Parking is available but expensive, like everywhere in Prague, so just take the train from the airport and save yourself the headache.

Look, at 8.4 rating it’s not going to blow your mind with perfection, but it delivers on what actually matters. It feels like a real hotel run by people who care about hospitality, not some corporate chain going through the motions. The price point reflects the five-star rating, but you’re getting genuine quality, not just fancy marketing. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere special while still being able to walk everywhere important, this is your spot.

  I have been travelling for over 4 months in different countries and hotels, The Esplanade Prague was the best hotel I have stayed in by far, from the moment you arrive the staff from reception to breakfast service, there help in organising your transport, to sites to see , was delivered with sincere, genuine ,friendly, professional, nothing was a problem for them, Avery unique, place to stay, treasure my time there, Bruce from Australia 🇦🇺

  Only spend one night here in transit to Budapest. Location was an easy 2-3 minute walk to the train station.
  Very comfortable bed and a great shower.
  Easy walk to many good restaurants and bars.
