EA Hotel Populus Overview

You know what caught me off guard about EA Hotel Populus? The neighborhood actually feels like real Prague – not the tourist bubble around Old Town Square where you’re dodging selfie sticks every five steps. It’s tucked away in Vinohrady on U Staré Cihelny, which honestly I had to look up the first time (it means “Old Brickyard” if you’re curious), but once you’re there, you get why locals love this area. The tree-lined streets have that lived-in feel where you’ll see people walking their dogs and grabbing coffee at corner cafés that aren’t charging tourist prices.

The hotel itself is solidly middle-of-the-road – I mean that in the best way possible for a 3-star place. The lobby’s got this modern-but-not-trying-too-hard vibe, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward without any pushy upselling. Rooms are clean and functional, though honestly, the walls could be a bit thicker – I could hear my neighbors’ TV one night, but it wasn’t terrible. What I really appreciated was how quiet the street gets after evening rush hour. You’re far enough from the main Vinohrady thoroughfares that you won’t have trams rumbling by at 6 AM, but close enough that you can walk to Náměstí Míru (the main square) in about ten minutes. The metro connection there gets you to Wenceslas Square in maybe 15 minutes, which beats staying right in the center and dealing with the crowds and noise, if you ask me.

Here’s the thing about this part of Prague – it’s where you actually get a sense of how the city lives and breathes. There’s a great little Vietnamese place around the corner (Prague has an amazing Vietnamese food scene, don’t sleep on it), and the grocery stores nearby aren’t the overpriced tourist traps you’ll find near the castle. The hotel staff seemed to know this too – they had solid recommendations that weren’t just the obvious hits. Parking’s available if you’re driving, though honestly, once you’re here you won’t need a car much. The 7.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises. Perfect for people who want a comfortable base to explore from without paying premium prices for location bragging rights they don’t really need.

To book a hotel in Prague during the famous Easter Market season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts history enthusiasts and architecture lovers from around the world.

Reviews of EA Hotel Populus

  • Good value for money. – Marek from Czech Republic – 10 April 2025 (7/10)

    Locatio, price

What could be improved: Parking is not included in the price.

  • The place is better than a hostel compared to its price. – Anzer from Germany – 25 December 2024 (7/10)

The hotel is close to a gas station with a shop open 24/24h.
Close to a bus station that connects you with the rest of the local transports.

What could be improved: No Shampoo / No shower gel / No tea bags (it isn’t a big deal for the hotel to put some, but it’s highly appreciated when they exist)
The shower was not warm, but mere normal. (Difficult to take a shower in a cold weather)
Room for three people is only comfy for two, the third person gets the uncomfortable Sofa.

  • فندق جميل – Abdullah from Oman – 26 October 2024 (6/10)

الفندق نظيف وهادئ ويستحق تقييم أعلى لولا موظف الاستقبال

What could be improved: The receptionist's behavior was very bad. He initially handed me a room completely different from my reservation, and when I asked him to give me a suite according to my reservation, he delayed me a lot and claimed that he did not know that there were such rooms in the hotel. He began threatening to cancel my reservation and began to taunt me in front of the rest of the guests and deliberately delay me until he contacted the hotel management. They informed him that the suite I had booked would be delivered to me . But after approximately an hour. I hope that the hotel management will address this matter

  • the hotel price is fair and good value. – Shamlin from Germany – 30 May 2023 (7/10)

    Location is good. fair price

What could be improved: no drinking water in the room
Water drain was slow in our bathroom.

  • Good – Samrat from India – 22 September 2022 (7/10)

Affordable hotel. Good connectivity from the main city (20 mins). Ample breakfast.

What could be improved: The night shift receptionist was not at all welcoming (one with long hair). Was not willing to talk properly or listen to any requests.
The middle aged man and his wife (working together in the morning shift) were extremely courteous. They went out of the way to make us comfortable.

  • A good budget option, a little out of the city centre – Thomas from Germany – 23 August 2022 (8/10)

Very friendly staff, and a nice room which exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was pretty good too.

What could be improved: Of course, the location is a little tricky to get to by public transport. Also, the bathroom wasn't super clean when we got in.

  • Good hotel for a short staycation. – Mayur from Poland – 23 June 2025 (7/10)

The rooms were neat and clean, easy access to public transport (just outside is a bus stop), typical european breakfast. Would recommend this hotel if in Prague for just a few days but not suitable for longer vacations.

What could be improved: When we entered the room and checked the bathroom it was stinky. The bathroom was not very clean. There is not even a kettle to have warm water nor a bottle of water for drinking.

  • Good – Aleksandar from Montenegro – 20 June 2025 (7/10)

    Unbeliveable polite staff.

  • Okey hotel would definitely go there again – Oscar from Sweden – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

It was okey spot with good parking nearby, it didn’t wasn’t even that expensive. Good value for money

What could be improved: It could have been a bit cleaner, but it wasn’t even that bad and the staff felt a bit to stressed

  • Good – Bernath from Hungary – 30 October 2024 (7/10)

The city center is easily accessible from the area. There are a lot of restaurant and shop.

What could be improved: The room cleanliness could be better. The sink was very small.
