Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the Chevron Hotel on Holečkova street – it’s tucked into this residential area in Smíchov that most tourists never see. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly why I loved it. You’re actually staying where Prague locals live and work, not in some touristy bubble near Old Town Square where everything costs twice as much and sounds like a United Nations meeting.

The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Czech architecture thing going on – nothing flashy, but well-maintained in a way that makes you feel like the owners actually care. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (the staff spoke excellent English, which honestly surprised me), and my room had this lived-in comfort that felt genuine rather than sterile. The beds are proper firm – not that squishy hotel mattress nonsense – and the windows actually open, which I mean, seems basic but you’d be amazed how many places seal you in like a sardine can. I could hear the trams rumbling by occasionally, but it’s more of a gentle urban lullaby than anything disruptive.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood itself. There’s a fantastic little café called Lokal just down the street where you can get proper Czech beer for what you’d pay for water in the city center, and the whole area has this authentic working-class vibe that feels like the real Prague. You’re a easy tram ride from everything you want to see – Petřin Hill is practically walking distance if you’re feeling energetic, and getting to Charles Bridge or the Castle takes maybe fifteen minutes on public transport. The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works exactly like it should. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’ve got a rental car (street parking only, and locals know all the tricks), but honestly, you don’t need a car in this city anyway. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s got that sweet spot of being comfortable without feeling like you’re paying for a bunch of amenities you’ll never use.
