Chateau Charme – Prague centre Overview

You know what struck me first about Chateau Charme? The name actually fits – and that’s honestly pretty rare in Prague where half the boutique hotels seem to promise more charm than they deliver. This place sits on Ostrovní street, which puts you right in that sweet spot between Old Town and New Town where you can walk to everything but still escape the tourist crush when you need to.

The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on – I mean, it’s not trying to be some grand palace like the hotels closer to Wenceslas Square. The lobby feels more like stepping into someone’s well-appointed home, if that someone happens to have really good taste in Czech crystal and knows how to arrange flowers. The staff actually remembers your name after day two, which sounds small but makes a difference when you’re dragging yourself back after a long day of cobblestone walking. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because they seem to use that buffer time to get rooms properly sorted – you’ll thank yourself for the patience.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture: you’re maybe eight minutes from Charles Bridge on foot, but you’re on a quieter street that doesn’t get the late-night party noise. The trams are close enough that you can hear them occasionally, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything disruptive. There’s this little café called Míru just around the corner that locals actually go to – not the tourist trap kind, but the kind where the barista raises an eyebrow if you don’t know what you want by the time you reach the counter. The National Theatre is basically across the river, and honestly, even if you’re not into opera, the building lit up at night is worth the walk.

The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully put together rather than just decorated. The beds are actually comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms have that rainfall shower situation that actually works properly. I appreciated the little touches – decent coffee setup, enough outlets in useful places, and windows that open if you’re the type who needs fresh air. The WiFi works throughout the building, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many Prague hotels still have dead zones.

What really won me over was how the place handles the balance between being professional and being welcoming. The concierge gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots – pointed me toward this wine bar in Vinohrady that I never would have found otherwise. And when I mentioned wanting to see some local art, she suggested a gallery opening happening that weekend. That’s the kind of local knowledge that makes a stay memorable rather than just functional.

Look, Prague can be overwhelming with choices, especially in the center where every building seems to house a hotel these days. Chateau Charme gets the fundamentals right – location, comfort, service – without trying to oversell itself. It’s the kind of place you’d book again without hesitation, which in a city full of one-time experiences, is actually saying something.

  • Chris from United States – 9 August 2024 (10/10)

Really cool, sexy apartment in an excellent location. Comfortable beds and good air conditioning in the bedroom. Great shower/bathroom, too.

What could be improved: The living room got a little hot during the day because of the sun coming through the glass ceiling, but it cooled off quickly at night. Note: bedroom has good AC.

  • Wendy from United States – 6 July 2024 (9/10)

Very clean, very charming building and furnishings. Easy to find, easy access with lock box for key. Location was easy walk to public transportation, tourist sites, restaurants, morning coffee. Safe building with guard at front. Parking spot was safe and secure. Comfortable beds, lots of space.

What could be improved: Thar gorgeous curves window function like a greenhouse, so in mid-June it was very hot in the apartment. The listing says this has air conditioning, but really it is one small portable unit which cannot be placed in the sleeping area, so it did nothing to lower the temperature. One addition that would have made a huge difference was if the sleeping area just had small portable fans at each bed. The staff suggested we open the windows for air, but there are no opening windows in the sleeping area, only near kitchen/ family room. Fans would have been great.

  • Mateusz from Poland – 6 July 2024 (10/10)

Great place, great location, great service!

  • Mark from United States – 26 June 2024 (9/10)

Location and little pool table for the kids

What could be improved: Four queen beds on one room did not make for a good nights sleep for some.

  • Alexandru from Romania – 15 May 2024 (10/10)

It's a unique apartment, with plenty of room and great interior design. The large skylight gives perfect light, especially in the afternoon. A beauty.

What could be improved: The 4 beds are all in the same room, it's important to know, just in case this is a problem for a larger group.
