Charles Apartments in Old Town

Prague, Czech Republic
153 Karlova, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what struck me first about Charles Apartments? The address – 153 Karlova – puts you smack in the middle of one of Prague’s most storied streets, the kind of cobblestone pathway that winds through Old Town like it’s got all the time in the world. I mean, you’re literally walking the same route medieval merchants took to reach the castle, which sounds touristy but honestly feels pretty magical when you’re stumbling back from a late dinner and the street lamps are casting these dramatic shadows on the baroque facades. The building itself has that perfectly weathered Prague look – not too polished, not falling apart, just sort of elegantly worn in the way that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history instead of some corporate chain.

What really sets this place apart (and trust me, I’ve stayed in plenty of Prague apartments that promise charm but deliver cramped rooms and paper-thin walls) is how they’ve managed to keep the old-world character while actually making things work for modern travelers. The apartments feel substantial – thick walls mean you’re not hearing every conversation from the hallway, which is huge when you’re dealing with the steady stream of tourists that Karlova Street sees during peak season. I actually appreciated that they haven’t gone overboard trying to be trendy; the interiors are clean and comfortable without trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, which matters more than you’d think when you want to grab groceries from the Tesco down near Národní Street and make breakfast instead of paying tourist prices for mediocre coffee every morning.

The location is honestly unbeatable if you want to be in the thick of things – you’re maybe three minutes from the Astronomical Clock (though you’ll learn to time your comings and goings around the hourly tourist crowds), and Charles Bridge is close enough that you can easily walk over for sunrise photos when the crowds are still sleeping off their goulash hangovers. But here’s the thing nobody tells you: Karlova can get pretty lively in the evenings, especially in summer, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs or request a room facing the courtyard. The staff actually knows this and will work with you on room placement if you ask nicely during booking. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no waiting around in some tiny lobby, just quick, efficient, and they genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. That 8.7 rating feels about right; it’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want from a Prague stay: authentic, well-located, and comfortable enough that you’re planning your day over morning coffee instead of figuring out how to deal with broken fixtures or confusing shower controls.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Prague through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich medieval heritage.

Its location and the view was so perfect that we never walked everywhere. It is just behind the astronomical clock you can even see St. Vitus Cathedral through window and terrace. There are 3 bathrooms, with 2 en-suite baths. Last but not least, Anna was very kind that she found us 2 taxis although we do not have reservation.

What could be improved: Make sure you reserve a ride to the airport as uber or bolt did not approve if it is the morning.
