So I stayed at Centre Prague Retreat Residence on Vyšehradská street last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets the balance just right. You know how some hotels try too hard to be fancy and end up feeling sterile, while others go for “authentic” and you’re basically camping indoors? This place actually nails that sweet spot between comfort and character.

The location is what really sold me – I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Vyšehrad fortress, which most tourists completely miss because they’re all crowding around Prague Castle. But here’s the thing: Vyšehrad has these incredible views over the Vltava without the insane crowds, and there’s this lovely cemetery where Dvořák is buried that’s genuinely peaceful. The hotel sits in this quieter residential pocket of New Town, so you get that authentic Prague neighborhood vibe (actual Czechs buying groceries, not just souvenir shops) but you can still walk to Wenceslas Square in about fifteen minutes. I loved that you could grab proper coffee and pastries at the little bakery around the corner – the staff there don’t speak much English, but they make this incredible koláč that became my daily breakfast ritual.

What impressed me about the retreat itself was how they’ve converted what feels like a traditional Prague building without losing its soul. The rooms have these high ceilings and big windows that actually open (revolutionary concept, right?), and the beds are legitimately comfortable – I’m talking proper sleep, not that weird hotel insomnia you sometimes get. The staff genuinely seem to know the city well; the woman at reception gave me this detailed explanation about which tram to take to avoid tourist crowds when heading to Lesser Town, and she was absolutely right. There’s no pool or fancy spa or anything like that, but honestly, you’re in Prague – why would you want to be stuck inside anyway? The common areas feel lived-in rather than showroom-perfect, which I actually prefer. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, they can arrange something, though honestly you won’t need a car once you’re there. The neighborhood can get a bit quiet at night, but that meant I slept incredibly well, and the morning sounds were just trams and birds rather than drunk tourists. For a 4-star place with an 8.5 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any pretentious nonsense.

  Great location, fantastic, helpful staff and super bonus : no loud noise during the night, considering such a close proximity to the centre and all the action which can big crowds produce.
