Bishop’s House

Prague, Czech Republic
Dražického Náměstí 6-9, Prague, 118 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what’s funny about Prague? Everyone rushes to stay right on Old Town Square, but honestly, some of the best spots are tucked away where you’d never think to look. Bishop’s House is one of those places – sitting on this tiny square called Dražického Náměstí that most tourists walk right past, even though it’s literally a three-minute stroll to Prague Castle.

I mean, the building itself is gorgeous in that understated Prague way. It’s actually a converted historical building (hence the name), and you can feel it the moment you walk in. The lobby has these thick stone walls and original architectural details that make you forget you’re in a hotel. The rooms are what I’d call “elegant without trying too hard” – they’ve got character but aren’t drowning you in medieval theme park vibes like some places in the castle district. The beds are genuinely comfortable too, which… well, after walking Prague’s cobblestones all day, that matters more than you’d think.

What really sold me on this place though is the location. You’re basically in Malá Strana (Lesser Town) but on this quiet little square that feels like a secret. During the day, you’ll hear the trams rumbling down Újezd street nearby, but at night it gets surprisingly peaceful – something you definitely can’t say about staying near the main tourist drags. The 22 tram stops right at Újezd, which connects you to everything, and if you want to walk, you’re five minutes from the Charles Bridge approach and maybe eight minutes from the castle gates. I actually preferred walking through the narrow streets to get there rather than dealing with the crowds on the main routes.

The staff genuinely seems to know Prague beyond just the obvious recommendations. When I asked about good spots for coffee, they pointed me toward this little place on Kampa Island instead of giving me the usual Starbucks directions. Check-in was smooth, and they’re pretty flexible about storing luggage if you arrive early – which, let’s be honest, most of us do after those overnight flights. The 9.2 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but everything just… works. The WiFi is solid, the breakfast (when I splurged for it) was actually local stuff instead of generic hotel buffet food, and the whole vibe feels more like staying at a really nice Prague apartment than a tourist hotel. If you want to feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it, this is the kind of place that makes that happen.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel in Prague. The rooms were spacious and beautifully designed, with large, comfortable beds—though the pillows could be improved. The bathrooms were also very nice, but unfortunately, the hairdryer in one of our rooms didn’t work properly.
The reception staff were excellent—friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. The location was perfect for us, just across the Charles Bridge from the Old Town, making it easy to explore the city.
The breakfast was quite basic, but I haven’t rated the hotel lower as this may simply be the standard in Prague.
Overall, a great stay with just a few minor areas for improvement. Would recommend!

What could be improved: Pillows could be improved and the breakfast is very basic.

Excellent location some 25 m from Charles Bridge but in a very quite cul-de-sac away from the crowds. Helpful reception staff . We had room 2 in the ancient tower, which was massive with a comfortable king size bed & great bathroom. Warm under floor heating but air conditioning for the warmer months. Fantastic breakfast which catered for all tastes, including lots of fresh fruit.
The hotel had a relaxed atmosphere with some great plant wall features

What could be improved: Circular steps up to bedroom but these were mentioned in booking. No views out of the bedroom window except other close buildings which was a shame. The bathroom window looked out on a air-conditioning and narrow gap between buildings.
