You know what strikes you first about Balu Apartments? It’s tucked away on this quiet side street – Pod Krejcárkem – that most tourists would walk right past, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. I mean, you’re still basically in the heart of Prague, but without all the noise and crowds that come with staying right on the main drags. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Czech apartment block vibe, which might not photograph like those fairy-tale hotels, but there’s something refreshingly authentic about it.

The apartments themselves are actually quite spacious – and I say “actually” because four-star places in Prague can be hit or miss when it comes to room size. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep things modern without losing that Central European character. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, not just for show, which is clutch if you want to grab some bread and cheese from one of the local shops instead of eating out every single meal. The Wi-Fi works reliably (always my first test), and the beds are firm in that European way that somehow makes you sleep better than you expect. One small thing – the shower pressure is solid, but the bathroom ventilation could be better. Not a dealbreaker, just something I noticed after a few hot showers.

What really sold me on this place though is the neighborhood knowledge you pick up just by staying here. You’re walking distance from Petřin Hill, which locals will tell you is way better than climbing up to the castle if you want proper views without the tourist chaos. There’s this little hospoda around the corner where the staff actually remembers your order after a couple visits, and honestly, those are the moments that make a trip. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on what matters. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to Prague), but they’ll give you the real scoop on where to find spots, not just the official tourist advice. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning one of those longer trips where you want to feel less like a tourist and more like you’re just… living somewhere for a while.

  The apartment was immaculate! Good to local transport too! Also had a TV which was a bonus! The bathroom is also lovely! Would 100% recommend!
  
  What could be improved: If I could change anything I would of liked something in the kitchen area to make food, like a toaster or microwave.
  Also the signage when you arrive isn't very clear, we arrived late at night and it took us a little while to work out how to get in, then we had to check in ourselves and scan our room card which was a little scary as we wasn't too sure what to do. Once we were in though it was perfect!

  What could be improved: No much toilet paper, no where to go and change the towels on the 3 days over the weekend. No iron, that's a needed….overall good.

  The place is beautiful, the Balu kitchen works all day and has superb food and atmosphere. Check-in was easy, they even had Lithuanian language option on the check-in computer. Internet was good, super cozy place, bathroom and terrace.
  
  What could be improved: They didn't reply when asked about the laundry room. So we haven't figured out how to use one. The building is a bit sketchy, but the apartments area is very well made so that's not a problem 🙂
  There was a moment when construction worker has crossed our balcony. That was a bit strange. 😀

  What could be improved: In second Room they must have provided bed instead of sofa, one person slept on floor, we mentioned 2 rooms and 4 people, when we booked room for 4people they must have arranged coffee packets for 4people but they kept it for only 2,

  The staff was really nice and helpful. The biggest plus was the parking. The apartment was very clean and had all of the necessities. We really liked our stay here.

  I chose this hotel because it was very close to the Olympik Hotel where I had attended an event. It was good value for money for 7 nights. The room was big enough and had all facilities. It was warm and peaceful. Staff were really nice and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: It is in secluded area and there isn’t much around. The door of the building closes after a certain hour so you have to take an extra key for that. The restaurant is closed during the weekend.
