You know, I’ve walked past the Astoria Hotel on Rybna Street probably a dozen times before I actually stayed there – it’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention but has this understated elegance that grows on you. The building itself has that classic Prague charm (you can’t escape it in this city), but what really sold me was how the staff actually remembered my name by day two. I mean, that doesn’t happen at most places, especially the bigger chains. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling – not stuffy like some four-star places can be, but not trying too hard to be trendy either. There’s usually classical music playing softly in the background, which honestly fits the whole vibe perfectly.

The location is what really makes this place special, though. Rybna Street puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist chaos of Old Town Square – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Powder Tower, but you can actually sleep at night because you’re just far enough from the main drag. I discovered this little coffee shop called Louvre Café about two blocks away that became my morning ritual, and there’s a tram stop practically outside your door if you want to venture beyond the city center. The rooms are solid – not huge by American standards, but well thought out. My room faced the courtyard, which kept things quiet, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious. The beds are firm (which I appreciate), and they’ve got those heavy curtains that actually block out the light if you’re trying to sleep off jet lag.

What impressed me most was the attention to small details that you don’t always find. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere – I tested it in the lobby, restaurant, even the elevator. The breakfast spread is really good for a hotel this size, with proper Czech pastries alongside the usual continental stuff. During my stay in October, the heating worked perfectly, which might sound basic but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. The concierge, Pavel, gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on – places locals actually go, not just tourist traps. Parking can be tricky in this area (it’s Prague, after all), but they have a deal with a garage about five minutes away that’s reasonable by city center standards. Overall, it’s the kind of place I’d book again without hesitation – comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to actually care about hospitality rather than just going through the motions.
