Art Nouveau Palace Hotel

Overview

You know that moment when you walk into a hotel lobby and immediately think “okay, this is going to be good”? That’s exactly what happened at the Art Nouveau Palace Hotel. I mean, the name pretty much tells you what you’re getting, but honestly – the actual experience still caught me off guard. The building itself is this gorgeous example of early 1900s Prague architecture, all flowing lines and ornate details that somehow manage to feel elegant rather than stuffy. It’s right on Panska Street, which puts you maybe a five-minute walk from Wenceslas Square (though you’ll probably take longer because you’ll keep stopping to look at the facades of the other historic buildings). The whole area has this wonderful energy – bustling during the day with locals grabbing coffee and tourists figuring out their maps, but it actually quiets down nicely in the evenings.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to preserve all that Art Nouveau character while making everything feel genuinely luxurious and, well, functional for modern travelers. The rooms have these incredible period details – I’m talking original moldings and these beautiful arched windows – but the beds are fantastic and the bathrooms are completely updated. The staff clearly knows their stuff too; check-in was smooth even though I arrived during what seemed like a busy conference week, and the front desk guy gave me actual useful recommendations (not just the obvious tourist spots, but things like which tram to take to avoid the crowds at Prague Castle). One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night – Prague can get pretty lively, especially in the summer, but the rooms are well-insulated and face away from the main party streets.

Here’s what sold me on the place though: it’s one of those hotels that feels properly connected to where you are. You’re not staying in some generic luxury box that could be anywhere – you’re staying in a piece of Prague’s history that happens to have really good service and comfortable beds. The restaurant downstairs serves actual Czech cuisine alongside the international stuff, and their breakfast setup is impressive without being overwhelming. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of the city (honestly, it’s tricky everywhere in central Prague), but they have valet service that takes care of it for you. If you’re the type of person who likes to walk everywhere, you’re perfectly positioned – the Jewish Quarter, Old Town Square, even the river are all totally walkable. Just pack comfortable shoes because, you know, cobblestones. The only minor thing I’d mention is that some of the elevators are definitely showing their age, but that’s kind of charming in its own way. Overall, it’s the sort of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Prague properly, not just visiting it.

Very good location

What could be improved: Would’ve been nice if they acknowledged our anniversary

A full stay hotel. Bar, restaurant, separate area for breakfast, location, architectural style, high end finishes. A classic and classy hotel.

What could be improved: The giant tub in our room was tough to shower in.

Breakfast was the best variety I've had in mainland Europe. Every dietary requirement catered for.

What could be improved: There was a small problem with the bath in the bathroom but it was dealt with by maintenance very quickly.
