Art Deco Imperial Hotel

Prague, Czech Republic
Na Poříčí 15, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what hit me first walking into the Art Deco Imperial? The lobby actually lives up to its name – and I mean that in the best way possible. Most hotels just slap “Art Deco” on their marketing and call it a day, but this place on Na Poříčí has the real deal: those geometric patterns in the marble floors, the brass fixtures that look like they’ve been polished daily since the 1930s, and these incredible ceiling details that honestly made me crane my neck like a tourist (which, well, I was).

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Prague at all. Na Poříčí is one of those streets that locals use but tourists often miss – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the main train station, which sounds unglamorous until you realize how easy it makes everything. Wenceslas Square is right there, but you’re just far enough away that you don’t get the street noise and crowds at night. I actually slept really well, which is saying something because I’m usually hypersensitive to city sounds. The rooms have this solid, old-building feel – thick walls, heavy doors that close with a satisfying click. My room faced the courtyard (ask for one if you can), and mornings were surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the heart of New Town.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to keep the period character without making everything feel like a museum. The staff clearly knows their stuff – when I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the concierge didn’t just point me toward a taxi but actually explained which tram lines run late and where to catch them. Little things like that make a difference. The breakfast room has these massive windows that flood everything with light, and they do this Czech-meets-international spread that actually works. I mean, you can get your usual continental stuff, but they also have proper local pastries and this coffee that’s way better than it needs to be for a hotel breakfast.

Honestly, the 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed there. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Prague – you won’t find infinity pools or celebrity chef restaurants – but everything just works really well. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout (tested it in the lobby, room, and even the elevator like the digital nomad I am), check-in was smooth even though I arrived early, and the whole place has this lived-in elegance that feels authentically Prague rather than generically luxurious. If you’re the type who appreciates good design and wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual history, this is your spot. Just don’t expect it to be cheap – five stars in this part of Prague never is – but for what you get, it’s worth it.

Great location and friendly personnel

What could be improved: The air conditioning provides very dry air and the left elevator had a bad odour
