Hotel Description
So I stumbled onto Apartrezidence Opletalova during one of those “I need something decent but not touristy” searches, and honestly? It turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises you don’t expect in Prague’s city center. The building sits right on Opletalova street – and before you worry about the name being impossible to pronounce, just know you’re basically a five-minute walk from Wenceslas Square without dealing with all the crowds sleeping outside your window.
What struck me first was how quiet it actually gets at night, which is sort of miraculous when you consider you’re in the heart of New Town. The apartments themselves feel more like someone’s well-maintained flat than a hotel room – you know, actual kitchen equipment that works, decent-sized bathrooms, and windows that open properly (always a gamble in older Prague buildings). The whole setup screams “designed for people who actually live here,” not just tourists passing through for a weekend. I mean, there’s proper counter space in the kitchen, and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every time someone in the next room turns on a hairdryer. Small things, but they add up when you’re staying more than a couple nights.
The location thing is where this place really shines, though you wouldn’t necessarily know it from the street view. You’re tucked away enough to avoid the worst of the tourist chaos, but I could walk to the main train station in literally eight minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that. Náměstí Míru is close enough for those gorgeous art nouveau facades, and if you’re into the whole Prague castle thing, the tram connections are right there. What I loved most was discovering this little corner bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM and does these incredible koláče – the kind of spot you only find when you’re staying somewhere locals actually live. The staff at the aparthotel seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned it, which tells you something about how most guests probably stick to the obvious tourist spots.
Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling, no lengthy explanations of amenities I don’t need, just keys and directions to the elevator that actually works reliably. The building has that solid, pre-war feel without being stuffy about it, and parking (if you’re brave enough to drive in Prague) is manageable in the surrounding streets, though I’d probably book a spot in advance during summer months. One small thing – the courtyard can echo a bit in the mornings when people are leaving for work, but we’re talking normal city sounds, not construction noise or late-night party spillover. For what you get versus what you pay, especially compared to hotels trying to charge premium prices just for being near Old Town Square, this place makes a lot of sense if you want to experience Prague like someone who actually lives there.
