Apartment in Zizkov -301- Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Prague apartments over the years, and this little spot on Prokopova really surprised me. When you first roll up to Žižkov – and yeah, most tourists butcher the pronunciation – you might wonder what you’ve gotten yourself into. This isn’t the postcard-pretty Old Town, it’s grittier, more lived-in. But honestly? That’s exactly why I keep coming back to this neighborhood.
The apartment itself sits in one of those classic Prague buildings that’s probably seen a century of stories. You know the type – thick walls that actually keep the sound out (trust me on this, because Žižkov can get lively at night), high ceilings that make the space feel bigger than it is, and windows that let in that particular Central European light that photographers go crazy for. What really got me was how the owner clearly gets what travelers actually need. There’s a proper coffee setup – not just some sad instant stuff – and the kitchen has real dishes, not plastic tourist junk. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the apartment, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong.
Here’s what I love about staying here though – you’re living like a local in one of Prague’s most authentic districts. Walk five minutes down Seifertova and you’ll hit cafés where they know regulars by name and serve proper Czech beer for half what you’d pay near the castle. The Žižkov TV Tower (that weird spaceship-looking thing) is practically in your backyard, and while tourists debate whether it’s an eyesore or architectural genius, locals just use it as a landmark. “Meet me at the rocket,” they’ll say, and everyone knows exactly where that is. The real gem is being so close to Vinohrady – that’s where you’ll find the kind of wine bars and bistros that make Prague’s food scene actually exciting these days. Plus, tram connections are solid from here. Line 9 gets you to Wenceslas Square in maybe fifteen minutes, and you can reach the main train station without changing lines.
The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you spend a night here. It’s not luxury – I mean, we’re talking about a 3-star apartment in a working neighborhood – but everything just works the way it should. The shower has decent pressure, the bed’s comfortable enough that you won’t wake up sore, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your stuff instead of living out of a suitcase. What really sealed it for me was the check-in process – none of that awkward “meet me at this random corner at exactly 3 PM” nonsense you get with some Prague rentals. Professional but not stuffy, you know? And when the radiator made weird noises my first night (old buildings, what can you do), someone actually responded to my message and sorted it out the next morning. That kind of follow-through is rarer than it should be in this city.
