Hotel Description

You know that feeling when you stumble onto a street that feels like a secret? That’s exactly what happened when I first walked down Nový svět to find Aparthotel Tycho de Brahe. I mean, most people are rushing around the main castle grounds, but this little cobblestone lane in Hradčany is honestly one of Prague’s best-kept secrets – it’s where the castle staff used to live back in the day, and it still has this incredibly quiet, almost village-like atmosphere that’s hard to believe when you’re literally in the heart of Prague 1.

The aparthotel itself sits perfectly into this historic setting without trying too hard, if that makes sense. It’s named after the famous astronomer (there’s actually a fascinating story about why he’s connected to Prague, but I won’t go down that rabbit hole), and the place has this understated elegance that feels more like staying in a well-appointed Prague apartment than a typical hotel. The rooms are genuinely spacious – and I mean properly spacious, not that “European spacious” where you can barely open your suitcase. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to blend modern amenities with the building’s character. You’ve got all the essentials like a proper kitchenette (actually useful, not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation), but the windows still have those heavy wooden frames that make you feel connected to the neighborhood’s history.

Here’s what really sold me on the location, though – you’re about a three-minute walk from Prague Castle’s back entrance, which most tourists never even know exists. While everyone else is queuing at the main gates, you can slip in through Jelení Street and avoid the worst crowds. Plus, you’re right next to Petřin Hill, so those early morning or evening walks up to the tower become part of your routine rather than a planned expedition. The tram connections are solid too (honestly, Prague’s public transport spoils you), and if you’re driving, well… parking in this part of town is always going to be interesting, but the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real advice, not just vague directions.

What struck me most was how the place manages to feel both peaceful and connected. Nový svět gets genuinely quiet in the evenings – you’ll hear church bells and maybe some distant tram sounds, but that’s about it. During the day, you get just enough foot traffic from curious visitors exploring the lane to feel like you’re part of something, but it never gets overwhelming like Nerudova Street or the areas right around the castle. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Prague, but it nails the things that actually matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a quick sleep between sightseeing marathons. If you want to feel like you’re living in Prague rather than just visiting it, this is exactly the kind of place that delivers on that promise.

Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

Reviews

  • Pal from Hungary – 24 April 2023 (9/10)

The breakfast sandwiches were delicious, as well as the orange and the orange juice. The rooms were clean, modern, perfect for 4 people. I recommend this to everybody. Great value/price ratio.

    What could be improved: –

  • Jakub from Norway – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

Very spacious clean room and bathroom with a bathtub and heated floor. The balcony offered a nice view. Comfortable bed. Fantastic location, very close to Prague Castle, in a calm and quiet neighbourhood.

What could be improved: Only a bathtub with a shower head was available for taking a shower. While the bathtub was great, we missed having the option of a standard shower.

  • Ricardo from Austria – 4 January 2025 (8/10)

The location is excellent and you have a view of the castle. The area is also nice and quiet.
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
    The terrace is large.
    The room was cleaned everyday.

What could be improved: The shower is not really made for taking a shower while standing.
The room was slightly too cold and you couldn’t increase the temperature.
The one set of blinds could not be closed.
    The breakfast was underwhelming.

  • Dani from Croatia – 8 November 2024 (8/10)

The property is nice. The room was spacious. Good location and easy taxi pickup right at your door. Close to a lot of sights.

What could be improved: The regulation of the heating is pretty much impossible it is either too hot or too cold.

The package breakfast is terrible. There is no vegetables and they do not ask if you actually eat bread. I was also given only strawberry yoghurt although there were always two yoghurts in the fridge but just this flavour that I do not eat and they would not replace it with other even when they saw I was not taking it.
Coffee was there but no milk or cream. No tea for first two days, I brought my own.
I think they should either cancel the breakfast or ask you for some preference because this was just a horrible waste of food and I felt terrible.

Also note, you need to fill in some form before being given the code to access. This also was not clearly communicated.

Overall I really liked the place but some things just subpar given the overall potential of the place.

There was supposed to be an iron but there was none so I could not iron my clothes.

  • Abigail from United Kingdom – 3 November 2024 (8/10)

Big room and bathroom. Fabulous location near tge castle but very quiet at night. Close to brilliant restaurants.super clean.

What could be improved: Issue with checking in. The key was not in the lock box we were given the code to. Thankfully, the phone number on the email picked up straight away and Hannah came to our rescue 15 mins later to get us in. Not ideal as it was late at night but atleast it was resolved quickly.

Breakfast was provided but would have preferred bottled water to juice.

  • Benigna from Hungary – 21 May 2024 (8/10)

    Beautiful clean and comfortable room

What could be improved: Difficult to find a parking lot

  • Benny from United Kingdom – 6 January 2024 (9/10)

Fantastic bathroom, great private terrace which would have been lovely in the summer. Great tram links and nice view of St Vitus and castle. Nice bed. Good communication with owner.

What could be improved: Better range of complimentary toiletries would have been nice (but there were soap bars and a sachet of shower gel per person replenished each day).

  • Mario from Norway – 17 December 2023 (8/10)

    What could be improved: Breakfest

  • Andrei from Hungary – 6 November 2023 (8/10)

We totally enjoyed our stay at the hotel where we spent romantic week-long vacation. The location was splendid! The comfort, room size, and room facilities (other than the shower) were beyond commendable.
The bed was pretty comfortable and there were plenty of power sockets on every wall.
The room was cleaned once a day, but strictly at the same time (which could be inconvenient if you're trying to relax).
The breakfast was basic—wrapped sandwiches, daily replenished yogurts, apples and coffee capsules, as well as tea and honey sachets. Plus, we received a liter of juice every day.
The best aspect is undoubtedly the location. There are plenty of attractions nearby and charming restaurants to enjoy plus it was really quiet at night.

What could be improved: The only downside – the terrible bathtub with a broken drainage mechanism, leaking shower head and without proper shower curtain making it impossible to take a shower without flooding everything.

  • Miriam from Slovakia – 29 October 2023 (7/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Wifi not working
