You know what caught me off guard about Aparthotel Angel? Walking up to this unassuming building on Karla Engliše street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked away in Smíchov, which most tourists completely skip over. But that’s actually part of its charm. The lobby’s nothing fancy, sort of reminds me of a clean, modern apartment building (which, let’s be real, is basically what this place is), but the staff genuinely seemed happy to see us. Check-in was refreshingly quick – none of that “let me explain every amenity for twenty minutes” nonsense you get at bigger hotels.
The apartment itself was where things clicked for me. These aren’t your typical cramped hotel rooms with a sad mini-fridge in the corner. We’re talking actual living space here – a proper kitchenette where you can make real coffee in the morning, not just those tiny hotel packets, and enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The decor’s pretty straightforward, nothing Instagram-worthy, but everything worked and felt clean. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Karla Engliše isn’t a main thoroughfare, so you don’t get that constant Prague traffic hum that can drive you crazy in the city center. The windows actually seal properly too – small detail, but it matters when you want to sleep past 7 AM.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re here: you’re basically a ten-minute tram ride from everything that matters. The 12 and 20 trams stop right nearby and shoot you straight into Malá Strana or up to the castle area. Actually, I started preferring this to staying right in Old Town because you avoid all that tourist chaos when you come “home” in the evening. There’s a decent grocery store (Albert) about three blocks away, and honestly, being able to grab fresh bread and coffee for breakfast instead of paying hotel prices was pretty great. The neighborhood feels properly residential – you’ll see actual Prague families walking their dogs and kids heading to school. It’s not picture-perfect Prague, but it’s real Prague, if that makes sense. For a 3-star place with a 9 rating, I get why people keep coming back here. It just works without trying too hard to impress you.

What could be improved: The bathroom lacked full waterproofing, causing water to leak during showers and leaving the floor wet.

The apartment is very comfortable and spacious. Very well furnished with everything brand new. Located in the nice and cool neighbourhood of Andel, few steps from the metro station (three station away from Wenceslas square).
