Hotel Description

You know what hit me first when I walked into the Alchymist Grand? The smell – this incredible mix of old wood, subtle incense, and something floral that I couldn’t quite place. It’s housed in this baroque mansion right on Tržiště street, and honestly, the lobby feels more like stepping into some wealthy collector’s private residence than a typical hotel. The whole place is pretty much dripping with antiques and art pieces that look like they belong in a museum (and probably cost more than my car).

The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re really in Prague without being stuck in the touristy chaos of Old Town Square. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the castle – I mean, you can see it from some of the rooms – but you’re on this quiet cobblestone street that most tourists just walk past on their way up the hill. The Malá Strana neighborhood has this almost village-like feel, especially in the early mornings when you can hear church bells echoing off the baroque buildings. Fair warning though – those same cobblestones that look so charming will murder your wheeled luggage, so pack light or tip your bellhop well.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to keep the old-world atmosphere without skimping on modern comfort. The spa downstairs feels like descending into some ancient Roman bath house, complete with stone archways and dim lighting that somehow doesn’t feel gloomy. I spent way too much money on their beer bath treatment (yes, that’s a real thing in Prague, and yes, it’s as weird and wonderful as it sounds). The rooms vary quite a bit since it’s a historic building – some have these massive ceiling frescoes, others have fireplaces you could literally stand in. Mine had this little alcove with a reading chair positioned perfectly to watch the sunset hit the castle walls. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters when you’ve been walking on cobblestones all day. Only minor complaint? The WiFi can be spotty in some of the older sections of the building – something about those thick baroque walls not playing nice with modern technology. But honestly, if you’re the type of person who chooses a place like this, you probably want to disconnect a bit anyway.

Exuberant style of decoration, beautiful premises. Perfect location. Excellent breakfast. Almost all staff members were exceedingly kind and competent. Concierge services very helpful in organizing tours, etc. Liked the afternoon wine tasting offered. Housekeeping did a good job, efficient and welcoming.

What could be improved: Hotel bar should remain open and staffed until midnight.

Beautiful hotel in ideal location. Perfect for couples. The hotel provided free cheese and wine for guests in the afternoon which was a lovely touch. The pool was very small, so not for swimmers but great for a dip after the sauna.

  • Karolina from Australia – 23 March 2025 (10/10)

The hotel is absolutely stunning. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful, spacious and clean. Location is great too – is is a quieter part of the city but still close to a lot of iconic landmarks of Prague.

What could be improved: Additional fee for parking was quite pricey and the restaurant at the hotel was closed on Sunday for dinner time – this was a little bit inconvenient. Otherwise, everything else was perfect.

Hotel is beautiful. The property is very well maintained with exquisite features in every corner. I have stayed at many hotels but this one really delivers luxury.
The breakfast was nice. The spa lovely.
The location is amazing as it is tucked away in the centre in a quiet road but within minutes you can walk into the heart of old town, run along the river, visit the castle and Old Town along with its many restaurants and bars.
I would definitely stay here again.
The food at the restaurant was exceptional.
The little cafe at the front serves Cocktails and Fizz alongside small. bites when you want a snack in luxurious surroundings.
    The beds are extremely comfortable.
I could not have asked for more on this 4d trip.
The reception staff, restaurant and cafe staff all were incredible generous and ready to help all the time.
Thank you all for a wonderful trip.
