Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Adalbert Ecohotel on Markétská street – honestly, the area feels a bit residential and quiet compared to the tourist madness closer to Old Town. But that actually turned out to be one of its biggest strengths. The building itself has this understated charm, and you can tell right away they’re serious about the whole eco thing without being preachy about it. The lobby smells faintly of natural wood and some kind of subtle essential oil (lavender maybe?), and there’s genuine warmth from the staff that you don’t always get at bigger places.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between being environmentally conscious and actually comfortable. I mean, sometimes “eco” hotels feel like you’re camping indoors, but the Adalbert gets it right. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully designed – good lighting, really solid beds, and these amazing little touches like locally-made soaps that actually smell incredible. The water pressure is excellent (trust me, this matters after long days walking Prague’s cobblestones), and they’ve got this smart system where your key card controls the room’s power, so nothing’s running when you’re out exploring. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, which is clutch because even though Markétská is quieter than the main drags, you still get some tram noise during the day.

Here’s the thing that really sets it apart though – the location is actually brilliant once you figure it out. You’re far enough from the crowds that you feel like you’re experiencing real Prague, not tourist Prague. There’s this fantastic little bakery just two streets over that locals line up at every morning, and you can walk to Petřin Hill in about fifteen minutes for some of the best views in the city without fighting through tour groups. The tram connections are solid (you’ll want the 22 or 23), and honestly, being able to come back to this peaceful pocket after a day in Wenceslas Square or the Castle district feels like a luxury. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see kids playing in small parks and older folks sitting on benches – it’s the Prague that residents actually know. I stayed here in late September, and the whole area had this golden, slightly melancholy autumn vibe that felt perfectly Czech. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Astronomical Clock, but you’re also not paying astronomical prices, and the 20-minute tram ride to the center gives you time to decompress. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight.

I stay in Adalbert every year before Christmas, it is an amazing place, calm and peaceful and in beautiful surroundings. Good facilities, very clean, nice breakfast and friendly staff. I look forward to stay again!

  • Excellent option for the solo traveller by car. – Frank from United Kingdom – 20 December 2024 (10/10)

Clean (but small) room and bathroom, well heat controlled, 24h friendly reception and breakfast, room service staff, free secured car parking space, varied, good quality breakfast and coffee from 7-10am. Good value for money, next to a fantastic microbrewery and good restaurant (reserve a table in advance) and near to tram station to the city centre. 20nins from airport and city centre by car. Keep the good hotel going, highly recommended.

What could be improved: The mattress may be a bit on the hard side, not suitable for everybody. Something beyond the control of the hotel: the church bells are ringing from the next door monastery 24h and every 15mins: take your earplugs with you or buy them locally.

  • Superb – David from United Kingdom – 17 December 2024 (9/10)

Excellent value and a great location. Very helpful staff.

What could be improved: The coffee at breakfast is poor.
