Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Prague, and Accommodation Smečky 14 honestly surprised me in the best way. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and it just… works? The building sits right on Ve Smečkách street, which – if you don’t know Prague well – is basically this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos. I mean, Wenceslas Square is literally a three-minute walk, but somehow this little stretch feels almost residential.

The thing that got me right away was how they’ve managed to keep that old Prague character without making you feel like you’re staying in a museum. The rooms have these high ceilings that make everything feel spacious (and trust me, space is precious in this city), but they’ve actually invested in proper modern stuff where it matters – the wifi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, the shower has decent pressure, and the beds are legitimately comfortable. I stayed on the third floor and barely heard any street noise, which honestly shocked me because Ve Smečkách can get a bit lively, especially on weekends when people are heading to and from the clubs around IP Pavlova.

What really sold me on this place though was the little details that you only notice when someone actually cares about what they’re doing. The front desk staff – and I’m not just saying this – actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the guy didn’t just point vaguely east, he told me which tram to catch and mentioned that there’s construction on Korunní so I should probably walk the last bit. Plus, they’ve got this small kitchenette setup that’s perfect if you grab some pastries from the bakery around the corner (there’s this tiny place two blocks down that does incredible koláče, by the way). The whole vibe is sort of like staying at a friend’s well-appointed apartment rather than a typical hotel – which, given that Prague can sometimes feel overwhelming with all the baroque everything and tourist madness, was exactly what I needed. And honestly, for what you’re paying compared to some of the flashier places near Old Town, you’re getting way better value. I’d definitely book here again, especially if I wanted to actually experience Prague like someone who lives here rather than just rushing between the castle and the astronomical clock.
